Module 1 - What are blood-borne viruses?

 

A blood-borne virus (BBV) is a virus that is transmitted from one person to another through blood or body fluids that contain blood. This includes sexual activity, sharing of needles or other injecting equipment, and body art such as tattoos.

The three most common BBVs in Australia are*:

  • Hepatitis C (HVC)
  • Hepatitis B (HVB)
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
