Thread Together at Goulburn Street

Anglicare is proud to be a foundation partner of the Thread Together clothing hub in Hobart.

The hub is run from the Hobart City Church of Christ in Goulburn Street. It provides adults in need with free, brand new, end-of-line clothing that may otherwise end up in landfill.

The Thread Together hub also operates a mobile van service that has visited supported accommodation facilities operated by Anglicare in the Hobart area.

The residents at Bilton Lodge in Claremont said the standout for them was how friendly the Thread Together team was.

“I had a good experience with friendly people. This is a valuable service,” said David.

Tracy said: “What I liked most was how friendly they were and how comfortable they make you feel.  You’re not looked at as getting a handout.”

And from Tony: “They were happy people, [they] made us smile.  [I] would have loved them to be around all day.”

Support Worker Jenelle said that every resident who visited the van walked away with a smile and something new to wear.

“It was a nice feeling to see how positive the residents felt about the visit,” she said.

The service received a similar response when it visited residents at Goulburn Street recently.

One person was excited to acquire a brand new yellow coat with a medieval hood. Another was grateful to receive a pair of pants that were long enough in the leg for him. And one resident commented on how the program helped the environment.

The mobile van is due to visit Bayview Lodge and Youth2Independence facility Trinity Hill soon.
