Anglicare Tasmania Board

Mike Blake was Tasmanian Auditor-General from 10 May 2004 to 29 March 2016 and is now focusing on board and similar positions. Prior to accepting the position as Tasmania’s Auditor-General, he was Auditor-General for the Northern Territory. His career has involved working in both the private and public sectors, firstly with Deloitte Ross Tohmatsu for 16 years starting in Zimbabwe and ending in Western Australia, where he joined the Audit Office of Western Australia, rising to the position of Deputy Auditor-General. Mike was a partner with Deloitte Zimbabwe for 8 years.

Mike has been active in standard setting in Australia, being a member of the Consultative Committee to the former Public Sector Accounting Standards Board from 1994 to 1998 and he was a Board member in 1999, a member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board’s Urgent Issues Group representing Auditors-General from 2003 to 2005 and was appointed to the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board on 1 January 2006. While with this Board, Mike played a key role in developing standards for performance and compliance auditing in the public sector and, until stepping down from the Board on 31 December 2011, he was joint chair of a project group developing an assurance standard for general purpose water accounting reports.

Mike chaired the Advisory Board to the University of Tasmania’s Faculty of Business for three years, Regional Chair of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Tasmania in 2007 and 2008 and he was a Board member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand from 2011 to 2018 where he chaired its audit and risk committee.  In January 2015 he was appointed to the Australian Accounting Standards Board (retired in December 2020) and was a member of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board from 2016 to 2021. For four years until November 2021, Mike chaired the board of TasTAFE, Tasmania’s public provider of vocational educational training.

Mike’s current roles include chairing Tasmania’s Electoral Commission and the Department of Health Audit and Risk Committee and member of board of Anglicare Tasmania,  the Financial Statements of the Government of New Zealand Audit Committee the Audit and Risk Committee at the University of Tasmania.

Mike has a BCom from the University of Natal, Durban, is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration Australia, CA ANZ Australia, and CPA Australia, an Honorary member of the Institute of Public Accountants and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

He was awarded an AM in the Queen’s birthday honours in June 2021.

He is married to Jenny. They have three children and two grandchildren and three fostered grandchildren. Mike and Jenny love living in Tasmania and Mike is a keen golfer.

James has held a wide variety of senior professional and board positions across a range of sectors in not-for-profit organisations, government, university and private companies including recently as the Chairman of Tourism Northern Tasmania and the Launceston Airport CACG, a board director of the Launceston Church Grammar School and Cycling Tasmania, and has been a Trustee of the Anglican Diocese of Tasmania and a past board director of St Giles and Launceston City Mission.

In his roles as a director James has a particular interest in strategy, risk and community engagement. His primary background is in agricultural science. He is a graduate of the Australian Rural Leadership Program (MDB) and has been part of community development programs in the USA and India with the UN. James is an ordained Anglican Minister and is part of the All Saints Network in Launceston.

Tim is a Senior Director with the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management and was previously lead Partner for KPMG Tasmania’s Advisory Division and Chief Operating Officer for MyState Limited.

Tim has extensive senior global consulting and corporate leadership experience working with KPMG, PWCC, IBM, NAB, MyState and Rio Tinto in Australia, Switzerland, United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and India on large scale organisational wide projects covering operational strategy development and implementation, commercial performance, technology and operations performance optimisation, customer experience and organisational change.

Tim holds an MBA from the AGSM, MA (Industrial Relations & Management) and BA (Honours) from the University of Melbourne and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Tim sits on the Board of St Michaels Collegiate School, as well as its Finance Committee and Governance & Risk Committee.

In his free time Tim enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, cycling and travelling.

Ruth joined the Anglicare Board in late 2020. She has worked both as an occupational therapist and teacher across many years in a variety of work roles and loves supporting students to enable their potential.  So, the chance to be a part of Anglicare’s mission to bring about “the opportunity for people in need to reach fullness of life” resonated.

In 2021 Ruth will be starting a position within Independent Schools Tasmania as an Inclusive Education Consultant. She also coordinates a post graduate unit through UTAS. Ruth and her family are part of the Wellspring Anglican Church community and love exploring Tasmania, strolling on the Pipeline Track and creative pursuits.

Linda Stitz is a Registered Nurse with extensive experience. She has worked in both Private and Public sectors, holding positions as a Clinical Nurse, Nurse Unit Manager of a Medical/Surgical Ward and Nurse Unit Manager of an Operating Theatre Suite. Currently she is working as a Registered Nurse in a Post Anaesthetic Care Unit.

Originally qualified as a Hospital General Trained Nurse, Linda has since undertaken further education in Midwifery Nursing as well as attaining a Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing) with a specialty in Primary Health Care through the University of Tasmania.

Linda and her husband, who works on the family farm in rural North West Tasmania have 2 daughters who are both currently studying at university. When not working, Linda enjoys bushwalking, beachcombing and reading. She is also an active member of the Burnie Anglican Church, serving as a Parish Councillor as well as on various rosters.

Kaela is a Senior Associate with Dobson Mitchell and Allport Lawyers.  Kaela’s current practice areas include commercial litigation (which covers workplace relations, civil disputes and minor criminal matters) as well as estate planning (preparing wills, enduring guardians, powers of attorneys and estate planning advice).

Kaela is a member of both the Southern Young Lawyers and Tasmanian Women Lawyers committees. Kaela is also a member of the National association of Women in Construction (Tasmanian chapter).

Denise is a retired health care professional who has worked across a variety of clinical and senior management roles in the National Health Service in the UK. Her experience covers a range of acute clinical specialities including elderly medicine and cancer services with a particular interest in service development, continuous improvement and change management.

After moving to Tasmania in 2004, Denise worked in organisational development for an Aged Care provider and as project manager in the Department of Health & Human services. Most recently she was employed by the Commonwealth Department of Health & Ageing as the Assistant Director of Health and previously Director of the Office of Aged Care Quality and Compliance.

Denise has served on a number of boards including the Governance and Clinical Risk subcommittee of an aged care provider and as Treasurer for an animal charity. She is privileged to serve as Warden, Treasurer and Chair of the Parish Council for the Anglican Parish of the Huon where she is a regular attendee.

Scott is a senior executive with the Department of Health following a career managing corporate functions – including strategic infrastructure, governance, policy, planning, human resources, finance, risk, procurement, compliance and legal services – across for-profit, not-for-profit and government sectors.

He has delivered a number of significant and complex commercial outcomes to the benefit of the Tasmanian community, including the completion of the Royal Hobart Hospital Redevelopment Stage 1, the completion of the parliament square project and the procurement of a new commercial operator for the Hobart Private Hospital.

Scott is currently a director of Surf Life Saving Tasmania, having previously sat on the board between 1999–2008. He is a past director of Christian Schools Tasmania from 2014–2023, having chaired the board between 2017–2023 as well as sitting on the Finance and Risk Committee and chairing the Executive Remuneration Committee.

He is married to Kristina. They have three adult children.

John McQuillan is the Rector of Huon Anglican Church. He oversees the diverse activities of a rural parish, including ministry to children and youth, the elderly and those in the community in need of support.

Prior to ordained ministry, John worked in customer facing roles in retail and in administration at the Magistrates Court of Victoria.

John serves as the Deputy Registrar of the Anglican Church in Tasmania and is a member of the Diocesan Council and Property Board. He sits on the Board of The Hutchins School and its Policy and Planning Committee.

John holds a Bachelor of Business and Laws from the University of Tasmania, a Master of Divinity from Ridley Melbourne and a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Theology from Oxford University. John is currently completing an MBA (Leadership) at Central Queensland University and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

John is married to Kim and they live in the Huon Valley with their two young daughters.
