Submission in response to the discussion paper ‘A Working with Children and other Vulnerable People Checking System for Tasmania’

Social Action and Research Centre Submission

While supporting a rigorous system of background checks, Anglicare noted areas of concern including costs to the community sector and to volunteer and self help organisations that provide important social participation and employment opportunities. Anglicare believes that people have the capacity to learn, change and grow and wants any new system established for working with children and other vulnerable people to ensure that people with lived experience of, for example, mental ill health or alcohol and other drug problems are not unnecessarily excluded from opportunities to change and contribute.
