Exposure to family and domestic violence may cause trauma for the child and lead to long-term psychological problems. In addition, many children are removed from their families and placed under the protection of the State, which while hopefully providing a safe environment for the child, does not necessarily alleviate the trauma the child has experienced and can cause additional problems in their connection with family. We believe it is vital that each child’s situation is assessed case by case, with the aim of keeping the child safe and preferably with a family member if possible.
