Submission to House of Assembly Select Committee on Cost of Living

Social Action and Research Centre Submission

Although Centrelink benefits are a Commonwealth matter, State governments cannot ignore the effects of inadequate income in the population. This submission focuses on electricity and transport as areas that need urgent attention regarding concessions, and raises the need for more information to help people use the full range of concessions in all areas. It also discusses the rise in infringement notices and questions whether they are equitable in their impact across the community. Finally, the submission suggests land tax and council rates may have an impact on low income earners in the private rental market.
