Anglicare believes that in order to promote workforce participation, build human capital and achieve a socially inclusive community, the Government must consider the following steps: the level of income support payments need to be reviewed and the level at which allowances are paid needs to be increased to the level of pensions; the Government must follow through on its commitment to an ‘education revolution’ and invest significant funding into the education system; this review of employment services should prioritise improving the integration between different forms of support available to jobseekers and ending the focus on welfare compliance that is compromising outcomes for many disadvantaged people; and the performance management and associated administrative system that applies to employment services should be revised.
