Community spirit on show in the West

February’s West Coast fires have highlighted the importance of an Anglicare presence in the local community.

The fires have burnt out more than 94,000 hectares of wilderness and World Heritage Areas in the State’s West.

One of our Zeehan-based family support workers is a volunteer with the Tasmania Fire Service, and assisted in the fight to stop the fire from reaching the township.

Meanwhile, their colleague recognised that evacuated families urgently needed to be fed, and stepped into a hands-on, leadership role in providing this service.

The team provided information and support to their clients at a time when moving around the community was difficult, conditions were changing rapidly and everyone was under significant stress.

Anglicare’s Senior Program Manager for the North/North West Marni Bos said the Anglicare value of compassion was on show for all to see.

Our team members looked out for each other, their clients and the whole community, and all of us at Anglicare are very proud of the contribution they made to keeping everyone safe and supported.
