How to Access Aged Care and Home Support Services in Tasmania

If you’re aged 65 or over, the first step is usually to contact My Aged Care to check your eligibility for government-funded home care services. You can complete an application online or call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. After you apply, you may be referred for an assessment to understand your needs and the support that could help you stay independent at home.

A trained assessor will talk with you about your day-to-day needs, your health and wellbeing, and the things you would like help with at home. Depending on your circumstances, the assessment may take place in your home. After your assessment has been completed, My Aged Care will let you know the outcome and which services or programs you may be eligible for.

If you’re approved for the Support at Home Program, you may be placed on the national prioritisation waitlist while you wait for funding at your approved level to become available. Once funding is assigned to you, My Aged Care will contact you. You can then choose an approved aged care provider, such as Anglicare Tasmania, to discuss your care needs and arrange your services.
