Costs and Funding FAQs

Support at Home Subsidy as at 01/07/2026.

The government has eight Support at Home funding levels. Once you are assessed you will be allocated an amount within your level. This amount will be somewhere between the full-service amount and the minimum service offer (MSO), which is 60% of the full-service amount. It's important to remember that 10% of your budget is set aside for your service provider to manage your care. Your care partner (such as Anglicare) will then work with you to plan and coordinate your services within the remaining budget.

Frequently Asked Questions About Getting Started With Support at Home

  • Am I eligible for Support at Home services?

Eligibility for Support at Home is based mainly on your care needs, not your income.

You may be eligible if you:

    •       are aged 65 or over (or 50 or over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people)
    •       need help to continue living safely and independently at home
    •       have difficulty with everyday activities such as showering, dressing, cleaning, shopping or preparing meals
    •       have experiences changes in your mobility, health or memory
    •       have recently had a fall or hospital stay; or
    •       are relying more on family or friends for day-to-day support.

To find out if you’re eligible, you’ll need a free assessment through My Aged Care.  The assessment looks at your care needs and determines the level of support you may be able to receive.

  • How do I apply for Support at Home services?

To apply for Support at Home services, you first need to contact My Aged Care, which is the starting point for all Australian Government-funded aged care services.

You can apply online through My Aged Care, or call them on 1800 200 422

My Aged Care will ask questions about:

    •       your health and mobility
    •       everyday activities such as showering, dressing, cooking and shopping
    •       any recent falls or hospital stays; and
    •       the support you receive from family or friends.

If you may be eligible, My Aged Care will arrange a free assessment.  During the assessment, an assessor will discuss your situation, identify the support you need, and determine whether you are eligible for funded services.

If approved, you will receive a Support at Home funding classification based on your assessed care needs.

Yes, help with cleaning and household chores is one of the most common services available through Support at Home.

Depending on your needs, support may include:

    •       laundry and ironing
    •       changing bed linen
    •       general household cleaning and tidying; or

    •       what tasks you can do safely yourself
    •       whether family or friends can assist you
    •       your approved Support at Home funding and services; and
    •       any health conditions that make household tasks difficult, such as arthritis, reduced mobility or breathlessness.

During your aged care assessment, be sure to explain any difficulties you have with cleaning, laundry, changing bed linen or other household tasks.  This helps determine the level of support you may be eligible to receive.

  • Can I get someone to help me shower, get dressed and other everyday personal care at home?

Yes.  If you need help with everyday personal care, Support at Home may be able to fund assistance with tasks such as showering, dressing, and personal hygiene.

    •       have mobility or balance problems

    •       Physiotherapy to improve strength, mobility, balance and falls prevention
    •       Occupational therapy to support everyday activities, home safety and independence
    •       Podiatry for foot care and mobility support
    •       Speech pathology for communication or swallowing difficulties
    •       Other therapy services that support your assessed care needs.

These services may be recommended if you:

    •       have experienced a fall or at risk of falling
    •       need support to maintain your mobility and independence
    •       have arthritis, a stroke, a neurological condition or another health condition affecting daily activities
    •       need advice about equipment, mobility aids or home modifications
    •       want to remain safe and independent at home

An aged care assessment will help determine whether therapy services should be included in your Support at Home plan.

  • Can I get help with paying for mobility aids, equipment or home modifications through Support at Home?

Yes.  Support at Home may provide funding for certain mobility aids, assistive technology and home modifications when they are assessed as necessary to help you remain safe and independent at home.

Funding for assistive technology and home modifications is assessed separately from your regular Support at Home. You will be assessed separately for Assistive Technology and/or Home Modifications funding, which is available in 3 tiers, Low ($500), Medium ($2,000) and High ($15,000).

Depending on your needs, funding may be available for:

    • walking aids, such as walkers or rollators
    • equipment to assist with mobility and transfers
    • bathroom safety equipment, such as shower chairs and grab rails
    • home modifications to improve safety and accessibility; and
    • other assistive technology recommended by a health professional.

An occupational therapist or other health professional may assess your needs and recommend equipment or modifications that support your safety, mobility and independence.

Funding approval is based on your assessed needs and program guidelines. While not every item is automatically covered, equipment and modifications that support your health, safety and ability to live independently at home are often considered.

Frequently Asked Questions About Costs and Funding

  • How much will I have to pay for Support at Home services?

The amount you pay for Support at Home services will depend on the type of service you receive, your income and assets and whether you are required to make a participant contribution.

Some services have lower contributions than others, and some health-related services may have no participant contribution at all.

Anglicare Tasmania’s current service prices and contribution rates are shown in the tables above. Select either Independence or Everyday Living services to view the relevant pricing and the percentage contribution that may apply to you.

If you’re unsure how much you may need to contribute, our team can help explain the fees and direct you to Services Australia for information about your income and assets assessment.

  • Are there any hidden fees?

No. Anglicare Tasmania aims to be transparent about the costs of your services, and all fees and charges should be explained before you sign a service agreement.

Depending on your circumstances, the government may require that you to contribute towards the cost of some Support at Home services. This is known as a participant contribution. The amount you contribute may depend on your income and assets, the type of service you receive; and whether you are a full pensioner, part pensioner or self-funded retiree.

Services Australia is responsible for assessing whether you need to make a participant contribution and how much you may need to pay.

Before your services begin, we will explain any participant contributions that apply, the cost of your services, how your funding will be used and any out-of-pocket costs you may be responsible for.

If you are unsure about any fees or charges, we encourage you to ask questions before signing your service agreement.

  • What is the difference between government funding and my contribution?

Government funding is the amount the Australian Government contributes towards your approved Support at Home services based on your assessed care needs. In general, people with higher care needs may be approved for a higher level of funding.

Your contribution is the amount you may be required to pay towards the cost of some services. While eligibility for Support at Home is based on your care needs, the amount you contribute is assessed separately and may depend on your income and assets.

Services Australia determines whether you need to make a contribution and, if so, how much you may be asked to pay.

If you receive a Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) pension, you may need to contact DVA regarding your income assessment and contribution arrangements.

Our team can help explain how Support at Home funding works and direct you to the appropriate organisation if you need assistance understanding your contribution requirements.

  • What is a percentage participant contribution and how do I find out what I need to pay?

The amount you contribute can depend on the type of service you receive, your income and assets and whether you are a full pensioner, part pensioner, Commonwealth Seniors Health Card holder or self-funded retiree.

Services Australia is responsible for assessing your income and assets and determining whether you need to make a contribution and, if so, how much.

If you would like information about your contribution requirements, contact Services Australia on 1800 227 475.

Our team can also help explain how participant contributions work and what costs may apply to your services.

  • How much of my Support at Home funding goes toward care management and administration?

The Australian Government has capped care management costs at 10% of your Support at Home funding allocation.

Care management supports activities such as:

    • coordinating your services
    • reviewing your care plan
    • responding to changes in your needs
    • helping you navigate the aged care system; and
    • working with other health professionals involved in your care.

We will explain our fees, service costs and how your funding is used before you start services, and you’ll receive regular statements showing how your funding has been spent.

  • Can I get a breakdown of all charges?

Yes. We believe it’s important that you understand how your Support at Home funding is being used.

You will receive regular statements showing the funding received, services delivered, care management costs, any participant contributions you have paid and your remaining available funding balance.

If you have questions about your statement or any charges, your Care Partner can help explain them.

Frequently Asked Questions About Care Management

  • Will I have a dedicated care manager or care team?

Yes. When you receive Support at Home services with Anglicare Tasmania, you’ll have a dedicated team to help coordinate your care and support.

Depending on your location and support needs, your care will be managed by an experienced Care Partner and, where needed, supported by our nursing team and other health professionals.

    Our team can help you:

    • understand your services and funding
    • arrange and coordinate supports
    • review your care plan
    • respond to changes in your needs; and
    • connect you with additional services when required.

We believe continuity is important, so we aim to ensure you are supported by a consistent team who understands your goals, preferences and circumstances.

If your usual Care Partner is unavailable, another member of the team can assist so you continue to receive timely support.

  • How often will my care plan be reviewed?

Anglicare Tasmania will review your care plan whenever your support needs change, you would like to add, remove or change services and if there is a significant change in your health, mobility or circumstances.

We also conduct regular reviews throughout the year, including an annual review, to make sure your services continue to support your goals, independence and wellbeing.

If your needs increase, we can help you request a reassessment through My Aged Care to determine whether additional services or funding may be available.

  • What happens if my care needs change?

If your care needs change, you’re not locked into your current level of support. Anglicare Tasmania can review your care plan and, where appropriate, adjust your services to better meet your needs.

You should let us know if you experience:

    • a change in your health or mobility
    • increased difficulty with personal care tasks, such as showering or dressing
    • memory or cognitive changes
    • a fall, illness or hospital stay; and
    • reduced support from a partner, family member or carer.

Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to adjust your existing services within your current funding. If your needs have increased significantly, we can help you request a reassessment through My Aged Care. This may lead to additional services or a higher level of Support at Home funding if you are found to need more support.

Anglicare Tasmania’s goal is to make sure your services continue to support your safety, independence and wellbeing as your needs change over time.

  • Can my family members be involved in care planning?

Yes. Family members, carers and trusted friends can be involved in your care planning if you would like them to be.

Having support from a family member or trusted person can be particularly helpful if:

    • you have memory or cognitive difficulties
    • English is not your first language
    • you would feel more comfortable with someone supporting you during appointments; or
    • a family member helps coordinate your care.

You can also nominate a representative through My Aged Care. This allows a family member or trusted person to receive information on your behalf, speak with My Aged Care about your services, and help manage appointments and assessments.

Importantly, you remain at the centre of decision-making wherever possible. Your preferences, goals and choices should guide your care plan, with family members and carers providing support when needed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Support Workers

  • Will I have the same support worker each time?

Anglicare Tasmania understands that having familiar support workers is important. Wherever possible, we aim to provide the same support worker or a small, consistent team of workers. This helps build trust and allows our staff to get to know your routines, preferences and support needs.

There may be times when a different worker attends due to annual leave, illness, training commitments, scheduling changes or staff availability.

If a replacement worker is needed, we will do our best to ensure they are familiar with your support plan and individual needs.

We also have an app that allows you to see who is scheduled to visit and the expected service time window.

  • Are Anglicare Tasmania’s staff qualified and police checked?

Yes. Anglicare Tasmania takes client safety seriously and ensures staff are appropriately qualified, trained and screened for the roles they perform.

Depending on their role, our staff may hold qualifications such as a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) or other relevant health and community services qualifications.

Before working with clients, staff must meet a range of screening and employment requirements, including National police checks, Working with Vulnerable People registration, and Reference checks.

Our support workers also receive training in areas such as personal care, infection prevention and control, manual handling, supporting older people and client safety and wellbeing.

We are committed to ensuring our staff have the skills, training and support needed to deliver safe, respectful and high-quality care.

  • Can I request a male or female support worker?

Yes. You can request a male or female support worker, and we will do our best to accommodate your preference wherever possible. We understand that some people feel more comfortable receiving support from a worker of a particular gender, especially when personal care is involved.

For personal care services, Anglicare Tasmania aims to ensure female clients receive personal care from a female support worker.

While we will always try to meet your preferences, this may occasionally depend on staff availability in your area and the services you require.

If you have specific preferences or cultural considerations, please let us know and we’ll work with you to support your needs wherever possible.

  • Can I receive services on weekends?

Yes. Weekend services may be available, depending on the type of support you need and support worker availability in your area.

To help meet staffing and workplace requirements, some weekend services may need to be provided for a minimum duration, such as two hours and they are generally charged at a higher rate than services provided on weekdays.

  • Can I receive services at a regular time?

We understand that having services at a regular time can make it easier to plan your day and maintain your routine. Wherever possible, we will try to accommodate requests for specific service times, particularly when services need to fit around appointments, medication schedules or other important commitments.

While we cannot guarantee a set time for every visit, we will work with you to schedule services within an agreed time window wherever possible. Service times depend on factors such as support worker availability; travel requirements and the type of service being provided.

  • Can I choose my own Support at Home provider?

Yes. Once you have been approved for Support at Home services, you can choose the provider that best meets your needs. You are not required to use a particular provider and can compare different providers before making a decision.

When choosing a provider, you may wish to consider:

    • services available in your area
    • costs and fees
    • availability of regular support workers
    • quality, reputation and client reviews
    • whether the provider can accommodate your preferences, such as requesting a male or female support worker; and
    • the range of services available, including personal care, nursing, cleaning, transport, gardening and therapy services.

If your needs or preferences change, you can also choose to change providers in the future.

Anglicare Tasmania is happy to explain our services, pricing and approach to care so you can decide whether we’re the right fit for you.

  • Am I locked into a contract?

No. You are not locked into a contract permanently.

Before your services begin, you will sign a service agreement with your chosen provider. This agreement explains the process for ending the agreement. If you are not happy with your services, or your needs change, you can generally choose a different provider.

Anglicare Tasmania currently requires 14 days’ notice if you wish to end your service agreement. There are no exit fees.

If you’re thinking about changing providers, our team can explain the process and help ensure your services continue without interruption.

  • Can I switch to another provider?

Yes. You have the right to change Support at Home providers if you feel another provider would better meet your needs.

If you decide to change providers, you will need to notify your current provider in accordance with your service agreement.

Before changing providers, it’s important to:

    • confirm the notice period required by your current provider
    • choose your new provider
    • arrange a transition date; and
    • make sure essential services continue without interruption.

If you’re changing to Anglicare Tasmania, we can help explain the process and work with you to support a smooth transition.

  • What happens to my remaining funds if I change providers?

If you change Support at Home providers, any unspent funding allocated to your care will generally remain available for your ongoing support and move with you to your new provider.

There may be a short period before your remaining funds become available to your new provider while final invoices and payments are processed.

If you need help understanding the process, My Aged Care can provide guidance and assist with transferring your services to a new provider.

If you have specific scheduling needs, please let us know and we will discuss the options available.
