Tasmanians are choosing the gift of kindness this Christmas.
People across the State are reaching out to those experiencing hardship by giving to the Anglicare Christmas Appeal.
And it’s not too late for you to join them. Donations have already made it possible for us to provide groceries to the people who need them most this season. In the New Year, we will support families to prepare their children for school.
Giving is easy – you can donate online or call 1800 243 232.
Anglicare appreciates the generosity of the Tasmanian community. Hampers full of grocery items were donated by school students and their families. Parishes have also given generously. The ABC Giving Tree passed on toys and other gifts. Volunteers have also been helping us to sort through the many bags of donated groceries and gifts.
As you can imagine this outpouring of kindness is a real boost to the spirit. And we are now busy distributing donations through our offices across the State.
“Groceries are quietly provided to the people we support who are most in need,” said Margaret Savage, Anglicare’s Parish Development worker. “And this happens not just in all of our offices across the State, but in every area we provide services. This includes housing support, disability, aged home care and our wider community services programs.”
“With donations of gifts from the ABC Giving Tree and parish groups, our workers carefully select toys and story books knowing the families they support and the ages of their children,” said Margaret. “And with toiletries and gifts for adults, we make gift bags for students living in our youth accommodation facilities, as well as for people we support through Aged Home Care”.
As we move into 2020 Anglicare will continue to support people’s mental and physical health, assist Tasmanians to find safe, affordable housing, provide financial counselling, and work with families to strengthen relationships.
