Hard times: Tasmanians in financial crisis

This report discusses the findings of a survey of clients of emergency relief and financial counselling services around Tasmania. These people were largely in receipt of income support payments and, not surprisingly, facing financial difficulty and hardship. In many cases, that hardship was severe – households had been unable to pay rent or bills, pawned or sold something, been unable to heat their home, had the phone or power disconnected, and even gone without food.
